What is a Whole House Water Filter and What Does it Do?

How to Install a Whole House Water Filter System?

Whole House Water Filter Buyers’ Guide

How to purify water at home?

Water purification is an essential step in water safety, which each of us should be familiar with. One of the most reliable and common ways to purify water is by using water filters. When having water filters at home you will be able to get fresh water as those are able to kill bacteria and avoid contaminants flowing into your drinking water. These house water filters usually come with removable cartridges that are very easy to change in case you need a new one.

How do water filters work?

Water filters use both chemical and physical filtration to purify water by removing particles and harmful contaminants from it. Physical filtration has a physical substance that serves as a barrier, not letting larger particles to flow into the water. Unlike this type of filtration, chemical filters use reaction passing through an activated material like carbon to remove microscopic bacteria that physical filters will not be able to determine.

How to install a whole-house water filter on a well?

If you decide to install a whole-house water filter, firstly turn off the main water supply. Drain the remaining water by opening all faucets. Remove a large section of the pipe to accommodate your filter system, as well as its components. Remove any dirt from the inside of the pipe. Install one shut-off ventil on either side of the system to make the maintenance easy. Consider adding bypass ventils too, as you will have water at home even when the system is in service mode.

For a better understanding of whether it is the right time to change the filtration system, add a pressure gauge next to each shut-off valve. For installation of a system, it will require a lot of dry fitting, make sure the in and out parts of piping are pointing the right direction. Then, apply Teflon tape on all threaded ends, which will help you prevent leaks. Do not overtighten any of the plastic fittings. Now you can turn the water back on. Open all of the applied ventils except for bypass. Check if there is any leak. Flush the system for several minutes, which will help you get rid of any installation dirt, excess air in the pipes as well as contaminated water.

How to change the whole house water filter?

It is essential to know when is the right time to change water filters and monitor them regularly. First of all, to improve the whole system, you will need to turn the water off. The next step, relieve pressure from the prefilter part of the system. The third step is to unscrew the housing. It will be necessary for you to use a prefilter wrench to loosen. The next thing you need to do is to remove the filter and clean the inside of the housing filter with any rust cleaner. Replace it and screw housing on without over-tightening. Turn the water back on and check whether there are leaks.
