How to Set up Charcoal on the Char-Broil Kettleman?

from top to bottom the Kettleman has been designed to give you a better
cooking experience
and how you use the charcoal is an important part, thanks to the innovative
design the Kettleman requires less charcoal than a standard grill
about 50 briquettes is all you need. Laid flat, this will cover half the grate
to light it, either use the chimney starter or mound the briquettes in a pyramid-shaped pile
lighter fluid or fire starters or crumpled paper will all help start the burn
when the coals are mostly covered in light gray ash, it’s time to get cooking
For standard direct cooking, distribute the coals evenly
don’t worry about the gaps, the Kettleman is designed to cook more with less charcoal
just be sure to let the cooking grate preheat for five to ten minutes
to get that perfect sear on steak
chops, burgers or anything else you want to grill
to control the temperature, adult the vent on the lid
closed to keep it hot, open to bring the temperature down
you know the grate is hot and ready, when you can’t comfortably hold your hand over it for more than a few seconds.
turn your food over at least once for even cooking
a second half turn will get you that perfect diamond sear to add presentation points
to go along with the delicious smell
barbecue fans know that low and slow is the way to go
and the Char-Broil Kettleman offers a variety of ways control the heat
For standard indirect cooking,
preheat about 60 briquettes and arrange them in a ring around the outside edge
because the kettle man’s fire grate higher and 20 percent wider
you can cook a variety of surrounding it with the consistent low heat
to get a real low and slow burn, the the Kettleman has you covered
all you need is 80 briquettes, arranged in a C shape around the fire grate.
lighting one end will allow the charcoal to burn like a fuse
providing more than six hours a cooking time
after the first few coals turn white place the cooking grate on the charcoal
to add some smoky flavor you can add 4to 5 wood chucks around the inside edge
Try to use smaller pieces because the bigger the chunk, the hotter it’ll burn
similarly you want to avoid using wood chips directly on the charcoal
that’ll cause the fire to get hotter and burn faster
Try adding chips directly to the cooking grate
the grates unique design will keep them from falling through and you’ll get all that
that smoky flavor added
you can also cook indirectly by leaving the coals mounded in the middle
and positioning the food on the outer edge
for this method, when your coals are hot add an extra few briquettes
just before placing the cooking grate, to get a longer cook time
grilling with the new char-broil Kettleman delivers all the features you
need to bring the flavor to your next cookout
so live it up, and get one for yourself.
